Doctors' Day is celebrated on March 30 each year.

Doctors dedicate their lives to the care of others, bringing hope and healing that only doctors can.  These extraordinary individuals reach out to bring comfort to patients and families each day. It is  for this reason that the HSHS St. Francis Foundation is taking a day to say a special “thank you”  for their dedication and sacrifice.

The following individuals have honored and recognized physicians for Doctors' Day 2017.

The HSHS St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary offers two scholarship awards to students whose principal residences are in Montgomery or Macoupin counties.  The Auxiliary’s Memorial Scholarship for Continuing Medical Education is awarded to eligible applicants currently pursuing degrees or diplomas in health-related occupations. Two awards of $1,000 are given. Award recipient selections are based on the information contained in the required documentation and in personal interviews. Financial need is also a consideration for one of the awards.

On March 3, 2017, HSHS St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield started offering chemotherapy treatments to patients in its new Cancer Care Center.

HSHS St. Francis Hospital held a blessing of its all new Cancer Care Center on Tuesday, January 17, 2017. Monsignor Kenneth Steffen, hospital chaplain, presided at the event. Joanne Van Leer, director of radiology and mission at the hospital assisted.

As 2017 kicks off,  HSHS St. Francis Hospital and Fit-to-GO in Litchfield are offering a free fitness classes  the first Thursday of the month. The first class was held on Thurs., Jan. 5 at Fit-to-GO at 503 E. Edwards in Litchfield from 6-7 p.m. Registration is not required; you do not need to be a member of this gym to participate. GO! 217’s goal is to keep community members moving and to improve the overall health of everyone who lives in the 217 area code.

Victory Lane Ford recently presented the St. Clare Center Food Pantry in Litchfield with a check for $4,651. The check was a matching gift that represented every dollar donated to the food pantry through November 15 which Victory Lane Ford stated they would match up to a total of $5,000.
