Heart Month Program

February is National Heart Month and HSHS St. Francis Hospital and the Prairie Heart Institute of Illinois will co-host a special heart month program on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at the hospital.

From 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., a free heart-healthy lunch will be provided in the hospital cafeteria. Reservations are encouraged. A free heart rhythm screening will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the auditorium.

Event speaker will be Colleen J. Moore, M.D., a vascular surgeon with Prairie Cardiovascular. Dr. Moore will speak on “Going Toe-to-Toe with Vascular Disease.” Join Dr. Moore and learn about Peripheral Artery Disease, or PAD. PAD is a built up of plaque inside blood vessels that restricts blood flow to the legs, arms and brain. PAD often goes unnoticed. Risk factors include cigarette smoking, diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. A family history of PAD, heart disease or stroke also may increase risk.

Marilyn Pastrovich, director of cardiopulmonary services at the hospital will be available for tours of the hospital’s cardiac rehabilitation department and a special Heart Month gift basket drawing will conclude the program.

Reservations are encouraged for the event may be made by calling Melissa Leonard at (217)324-8678.
