Stop Smoking – Start Living Classes

HSHS St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield will hold “Stop Smoking – Start Living” classes in the lower level auditorium on Mondays beginning Jan. 14 through Feb. 18, 2019 from 5:30 -6:45 p.m. Quitting smoking is not just about breaking a bad habit. The suggested donation for the six-week program is $30.

The topics for each week include:
Week 1: Preparing for a smoke-free life. Individuals will identify reasons for quitting, barriers to becoming smoke-free and a support network. Strategies on avoiding triggers and dealing with cravings will be discussed.
Week 2: Continuing to prepare for a smoke-free life. Participants will review steps taken to prepare for the quit date, identify any problem areas, choose a quit date and will begin working on a 24-hour action plan to get through the quit date.
Week 3: Beginning a smoke-free life. This week, the class will finalize the 24-hour action plan to get through the quit date. A commitment to quit smoking cigarettes and start living smoke free will be made.
Week 4: Celebrating successes and overcoming obstacles. This week will cover successes, challenges and barriers experienced through the program. Plans will be made on how to meet and overcome these obstacles.
Weeks 5 & 6: Individuals will give and receive support as they continue to identify supports for smoke-free living. Strategies will be created to remove any barriers.
